Our Skincare Routines

Our Current Skincare Routines

We have decided to share with you our current skincare routines. Perks of the job include having amazing products to try right at our fingertips, and we want to share our favourites with you…

We’ll start by saying these are our usual routines and whilst we love trying new things, and often do, we always have our regular products. By no means do you have to copy our routines, but they could give you some inspiration or even a guide on how to structure your own.

Main concerns – Dryness and ageing

Absolute Favourite – Multivitamin Power Firm

I have been using Dermalogica products for 30+ years, I first stocked it in my salon when I was in my 20’s so having trained as a skin therapist I know what my skin needs and how it’s changed throughout the years. I think starting a good skincare routine from an early age prevented me from having many problems with my skin, I still have good skin, but the ageing process is something we can’t avoid, we just must try and minimise it!

I have seen certain products come and go but the core Dermalogica products and values have remained the same. I’ve been lucky to be able to try lots of different brands and I’ve always chosen to stock the products that I consider to be the best. I also have a lot of staff of all different ages that are happy to help seek out the best products for our customers.

My essential routine is always double cleanse, tone and moisturise, I use Precleanse and Special Cleansing Gel, and I love the way this makes my skin feel clean.  Everyone should be using the double cleanse system and Precleanse is perfect for all.

Then I tone with Multi-Active Toner which hydrates my skin and leaves it feeling fresh, (I also have a travel size of this for when I’m going anywhere, as it’s a great hydrating boost, especially when flying) and my go-to moisturiser is always Intensive Moisture Balance…yes, I use this morning and night! As I go out walking with my dog, the wind and other outdoor elements tend to dry my skin more, it strengthens the skin's lipid barrier and helps rebalance the skin's microbiome, so I find this moisturiser perfect, I always do my neck and décolleté (chest area) too.

If my skin feels particularly dry, I switch to Super Rich Repair at night, this is quite a heavy cream, but it does wonders for dehydrated skin, it contains powerful peptides and an acid-free smoothing complex to support skin resilience and tone and antioxidants help defend against free radical damage, what’s not to like?

Then if I wish to add to my basic routine, I have some variable steps that I would do which would include exfoliating and eye cream, masque, and serum.

So, my exfoliant choice is Daily Microfoliant, I love the way this evens my skin tone and makes it feel smooth and clean, whilst this is perfectly suitable for daily use, I use it twice a week as this suits my skin best. My favourite masque is Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque which feels warm when I apply it and leaves me with a nice glow, I apply this once a week in the evening.

As my skin is dry, I like the Phyto Replenish Oil as a serum as it locks the moisture into my skin and my absolute favourite eye product is Multivitamin Power Firm as it deals with the fine lines around the eye area, and I use it on the lip area too.

We have recently done some training with a new nutrition brand we have introduced, Advanced Nutrition Programme and I’ve been taking Skin Moisture Lock which combines hyaluronic acid with ceramides which help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and plump the skin from the inside out, I think the combination of a good skin care regime and addition of supplements really improves the result overall, the other benefit, of course, is the supplements address the skin on your entire body not just your face.

I was amazed at the process that goes into making these quality supplements and would recommend them to anyone.

Age – 22

Main concerns – Oily T zone and visible pores

Absolute Favourite – UltraCalming Cleanser

I have only just properly introduced a regular skincare routine into my life in the past year. As I just had no idea what a good brand was or what was right for me and had no alarming needs. Now I absolutely love skincare and I ensure it is done religiously. I take a more minimalistic approach when it comes to products, I will always use what I feel my skin needs. I think a lot of people make the mistake of getting carried away with all the choices and completely overloading their skin with products.

I have a staple 3 products that I love to use in the morning and evening. A cleanser, toner, and moisturiser.

I like to swap between the Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel and the UltraCalming Cleanser. The UltraCalming range is more suited to sensitive skin, but it is so creamy and soft on the skin it is suitable for other skin types as well.

I am currently using the new Dermalogica Hyaluronic Ceramide Mist as my toner, it is more hydrating and with the weather changing, I think it is more suitable for my current needs because the cold autumn wind dries out my skin.

Finally, Dermalogica’s Skin Smoothing Cream, you just can’t go wrong with this, and I think anyone that uses it just falls in love with it! The best-selling moisturiser provides you think 48hr moisture keeping your skin plump and hydrated.

There are other products that I like to incorporate into my skincare routine as and when I feel like my skin needs them.

Starting with Dermalogica Precleanse, focusing on that double cleanse, I use this in the evening after I have had a full face of makeup on all day. It just really melts away your makeup ready for your cleanser.

I also will incorporate a serum every so often, again this is in the evening. I would either use a serum for retexturizing the skin or for brightening, depending on the weather or season or even what I’m doing over the weekend.

I not only tackle my skincare needs with topical products but also oral skincare.

We have recently had training in the office with iiaa (International Institute for Active Ageing) discussing their Advanced Nutrition Programme supplements. This was a massive eye-opener to me about how important it was to not only use skincare but to make sure you are supplementing correctly to support this.

I am a regular gym goer so I saw this in terms of doing exercise without a healthy balanced diet will only get you so far, well it is the same with skincare. Since this, I have introduced Accumax and Skin Clear Biome into my routine. These have made such a difference not only to how I feel but also to how my skin looks.

As you can see every routine is personalised and it is important to find what works for you. You need to give things enough time to work to see if it is right for you.

You can request samples from us to have a little try if we have them available. If you would like any advice or tips just let us know, we are fully qualified and can give advice or check out Dermalogica’s Face Mapping tool.
